What is an EGD?
An EGD, or Esophagogastroduodenoscopy, is a non-invasive medical procedure that allows doctors to examine the lining of the esophagus, stomach, and the first part of the small intestine (duodenum). During this procedure, a flexible tube with a camera called an endoscope is gently inserted through the mouth and guided down the throat, providing detailed images of the upper digestive tract. It’s commonly used to diagnose and treat conditions such as acid reflux, stomach ulcers, and celiac disease. This minimally invasive procedure can help identify the causes of symptoms like abdominal pain, nausea, and swallowing difficulties, offering valuable insights and targeted treatment options. At Grace Surgical Arts, Dr. Grace Valina employs EGD to provide her Miami patients with precise diagnoses and effective care.
